Pin Up Shoot in Danville

A couple of weeks ago Murder City Photography put on a fantastic Photo Shoot of Vintage Pin Up models along with antique cars and planes. There were over 180 photographers shooting the scenes. I tried to use fill flash and was reminded how little I know about using my flash. Now I am determined I will learn to use it before I need to do fill flash in the future. Some of the images were processed in black and white with toning. Others I kept in color because the outfits were so vibrant.

St. Augustine Safari

Beach at Marineland
I have been trying to get over to the beaches with the coquina rocks at sunrise for quite awhile. It means having to leave about two hours before sunrise. The morning I planned to go had temps in the 40's with wind chills. I decided to forego the sunrise once again. But the morning light is still rather nice so I stopped by and took some photos on my way to St. Augustine. I used a graduated neutral density filter to get a longer exposure. I had forgotten that at the wide setting I couldn't use the full 10 stops on the filter. With the bright light I couldn't get the water as soft as I wanted. Arriving before the sun comes up will make it a little easier I think to have a longer exposure. That will be my callenge for next time.

My next stop was the St. Augustine Alligator Farm. This was my first time there and its very nice. The great whites, roseate spoonbills and wood storks were nest building. The egrets that were nesting near the top of the tree had the cleanest background so I waited for the birds to fly in with nest materials. The yellow crowned night herons were hanging around but not doing much.
